Just a quick reminder to CBCer that owing to the civic holiday on Monday, some operations (known internally as “Shared Services”) will be closed or operating under reduced hours:

  • Human Resources: The HR Infoservice Centre will be offering its services, under reduced hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. Regular business hours (8 a.n.-8 p.m. ET) will resume on Tuesday, August 5.
  • IT Support: The IT Service Centre (ITSC) remains accessible 24/7.
  • Payments: The National Payment Centre will be closed and regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, August 5.

Reminder: People are being born every day. Further reminder: People are graduating from broadcasting school every year. So where are the jobs for them at the CBC? Do we really need the same anchorman for 40 years? the same traffic reporter for 30 years? Do jobs at the CBC grow on trees? Are we expected to believe that despite the fact that the CBC only uses 18 hours a day of TV and radio time there will always be new positions created to absorb the hundreds of students that go looking for work each year. Obviously no one seems to want to move on, and who can blame them. But it means that the CBC effectively becomes a club that makes rules preventing the next generation from having a go.
I think there should be a 5 yr. term limit on these government jobs, and that includes such fabulous talent as George Stroumboulopoulos.

What? Why stop there? Why not have term limits on people? Just turn them into cattle feed on their 40th birthday so some teenager can have their job.

Allan-If you can’t get a job in broadcasting it’s not my fault. IMHO I am very good at what I do. That is because I have been doing it for thirty years.

We’ve never met, David, and yet you seem to think you know me on a personal level. Was it really necessary to address me directly in order to respond and make your arguement?
How about clarifying how many of those 30 years were spent with the CBC.
