Avi Lewis returns to CBC with new show
Avi Lewis returns to CBC in June with a new show that promises “in-depth analysis of world events in his trademark provocative style.”
On The Map will be 30 minutes of sharp talk, combining footage from around the globe with a spectrum of opinion. It will air Monday to Thursday on CBC Newsworld at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, beginning June 4. The show’s launch will coincide with the G8 Summit in Germany.
As an aside, the CBC news release announcing Lewis’ show mentions that the show’s web site will be at http://www.cbc.ca/onthemap. Somewhat embarassingly, as of this posting, that URL currently resolves to a web site from the popular (but now-cancelled) CBC Radio One show Global Village. Oops.

OH F YEAH
And – what ever happened to Global Village? A good show that b9is now missed
Thanks Tod, for pointing that out.
We currently resolving that problem, and by later today, hope to at least have an information page up.
Avi? Is he the CBC’s token right winger? No? Who is then? It’s not hard to find a leftwinger at the CBC, the place is crawling with them, how many rightwingers do you have there?
Who?
Not on CBC radio… Never heard of him.
Looking forward to watching Avi Lewis’ new show. His last one was great.
Great, another smug, know it all lefty. Been there done that, 100 times cbc. Try something different for a change!!!
Avi’s Dad is the former leader of the Ontario NDP party. I don’t think that he’s been too radical in the past and has certainly done a lot of good in the fight against AIDS in Africa.
Avi’s wife/partner is the author of the anti-corporate book No Logo.
So, the CBC apple has fallen directly beneath the tree once again.
Avi is fantastic. A young relative, not a politically-aware type, tuned in religiously to “Counterspin” because he found Avi so open, clear, and smart.
Oh, and the token right-winger is Rex Murphy.
I enjoed his last show and hoped it would continue.
Seriously, do Canadian dittoheads just troll this site looking to scream left wing bias at every turn?
It’s like one step above writing, “first!”
Just because some people has a different point of view than you, does not make them dittoheads. Perhaps we would like to see more view points than those typically found on the cbc.
Well, I don’t think they’re getting rid of Rex Murphy any time soon. For all his faults, real or perceived, he strikes me as sane and intelligent. Keep him.
First!
CBC: On The Map with Avi Lewis….
Finally, an international affairs show I can relate to. Don’t know who Avi Lewis is? Here’s a quick run down of his pedigree:
Documentary filmmaker. (scores points right there)
Son of Canadian Hero (somehow hero just doesn’t quite s…
