Canada’s Best Coverage
The newspapers aren’t the only ones who think CBC-TV did “a job well done” covering the 95th Grey Cup. The boss liked it too!

(H/T to Jennifer Good for the great pic of Kirstine Layfield, executive director, network programming. It sure beats the extreme close-up in the last week’s Post, no?)
What did you think of CBC’s coverage? Was it Canada’s best?

I’m confused.
Wasn’t CBC the only station that covered the live game of the Grey Cup? If so, then don’t you need something to compare the coverage to in order to deem it the best?
It should have been “Canadas Only Coverage”
Like that’s a problem?
It will be once TSN takes over, that’s almost guaranteed…
You could always compare the coverage of the event rather than the game itself. I loved the way CTV and City desperately avoided the area around the CBC building and as a consequence were reduced to filming groups of 20 or so people in what looked like a community hall, half of whom were probably interns wearing appropriately-coloured frightwigs.
Meanwhile, we had beer! (Well, not me. But you know, the institution. We should definitely keep the cafe.)
While the CBC is often the focus of criticism, they are to be commended for yesterday’s coverage of the Grey Cup. It was simply an amazing testament to the outstanding abilities of the CBC Sports org (no, I don’t work there). Great game, great coverage of the action, and Lenny was fine. The pre-game show with the historical footage was a wonderful bit of culture. Well done!
Well, it was a great run, and CBCs coverage was very good, Heck I still remember when both CBC and CTV did the Grey Cup together,
And as they say, CBC went out the way it came it..PERFECT!
The CBC is Canada’s best coverage for the simple reason that you don’t have to have cable TV to watch it. Try watching the Grey Cup next year without cable TV.
I enjoyed watching one of the clipped-for-time, but otherwise unaltered, older games at midnight during the week – except: The Sports Host gave away the winner when introducing the ’78 game (and noted a winning side’s top player at halftime). Plus, then afterwards told the viewers that the American team is the winner(!) of the following next night’s game from the 90s.
Unlike a Stanley Cup Playoff Game 7 – who can actually remember every specific Grey Cup winner across 30-50 years? CBC/TSN… doesn’t matter – these old replays too often have their final results pre-referred to.
