A Cape Breton newspaper columnist is calling on the CRTC to deny a CBC request to switch frequencies of its Sydney NS station, until the CBC extends its Sydney programming to all parts of Cape Breton. (Right now, people living in south and west Cape Breton receive programming from the Halifax station.)
Bill Dunphy wants the broadcast transmitter in Mulgrave to be switched from Halifax programming to Cape Breton programming. (The Mulgrave transmitter is actually on the mainland, but the local community has an affinity to Cape Breton Island.)

I wish I could have photos of myself “kyotoshopped” as well.
I think all of Cape Breton should have CBC coverage. One time CBC was the only stations/channels to give home grown coverage of Canadian news. It’s appearing as if Cape Breton is separate from, Canada, not qualified for CBC coverage, come on let’s stop the decline of what is important to Canadians everywhere, even in Cape Breton.
As a former Cape Bretenor, this issue is still important to me.
Gaia,
This isn’t about people on the Cape getting CBC programming or not, it’s whether they should be getting it via Sydney or Halifax.
I’ve never been (yet), but I can see the logic of boosting the Cape Breton coverage. Things are, I suspect, getting busier there these days, as they are elsewhere.
Cape Breton programing for all Cape Bretoners. It seems fairly simple to me.Mulgrave residents & those of immediate surrounds may be considered honorary Capers for this exercise/argument.I am sitting in Sydney,Australia as I write this:however,I promise the CBC that I will come home to River Bennet more often & be a diligent listener if the Sydney coverage is extended to all of our fair isle.
