I’ll be co-hosting Freestyle most of this week so I’ll be a little slow on that whole responding-to-email thing.

CBC Radio’s national arts reporter, Marsha Lederman, is Freestyle’s new co-host. Lederman replaces Kelly Ryan, who will return to her previous role in CBC Radio news.
     Lederman has read news on the CBC Toronto morning show, hosted Ontario’s morning show and ran the radio newsroom in Vancouver. Before joining the CBC, Marsha worked in private radio – ultimately hosting her own talk show in Toronto.
     Lederman is also a freelance writer and has been published in the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star and the National Post, among other publications. She is a graduate of both Ryerson University and York University.

The backstory: Last year around this time, CBC Radio associate producer Ross Bragg booked artist Ian Culley on Freestyle. “He had this great comic strip about an amateur hockey team called The Barons,” Bragg tells InsideTheCBC.com. “He said he would love to include Cam and Kelly in a story line so here it is.”
     Interesting side tidbit: The Barons is based on an actual hockey team that plays in Oakville, Ontario.

A glossary of sorts to what you’ll hear:

• A reset: "Welcome back to Freestyle…"
• TTV: "TIme to voice" (how many seconds into the song do the lyrics start)
• Post: A moment in the song where something significant happens (like the drums start or the music changes in some way)

My worst fear co-hosting Freestyle came true today. I referred to the show, on air, as “The Roundup.”
