Subcultures interview request sparks real drama in virtual world

CBC Radio One show Subcultures accidentally sparked a real stir among the virtual citizens of “Second Life.” And it’s made one virtual plastic duck rather angry at the game’s developer.
According to the Second Life Herald web site, a Canadian who plays the game under the name “Plastic Duck” lined up an interview with the show. That’s when, according to the site, the game’s developer, Linden Labs, stepped in to try to persuade the show to pick another interviewer. Among the offenses Mr. Duck is said to have committed:
- Hired residents to negative rate other residents
- Dropped the infamous Goatse image all over Second Life
- Harassed the furry community
Subcultures airs Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. and the interview with Mr Duck airs this Thursday. This made him very happy.

P.S. I’m “Davo Nabob” in Second Life. I wear a CBC t-shirt, studio headphones, and a Superman cape. Stop laughing like that.
