CBC iPhone Hits Number 1 in News
The CBC’s iPhone application, which was launched last week, has quickly become very popular. In the first week after launch the application was downloaded 32,00 times in six days, and it currently is the most popular application in the news category on iTunes, and number three overall.
Jonathan Carrigan, the product manager of the application, said the application “may increase the amount of time people listen,” adding that the it makes it more convenient to listen to the CBC, so people may listen longer or listen on the go. More importantly the application also allows the CBC to “reach a new audience that we may have not have otherwise reached,” Carrigan said.
The application allows users to listen to CBC Radio One, Radio 2 and Radio 3 live streams, or a bunch of on-demand content while simultaneously browsing the cbc.ca website. You can get the application here ( the link will open iTunes).
For the record the application was developed by Ash Mishra and Nathalie De Meyer, Kevin Kimmett did the design and graphics.

This CBC iPhone application is great! Thanks CBC for supporting this development
Just to be clear, Jonathan Carrigan is the Product Manager for the Radio app. Myself – Ash Mishra and Nathalie De Meyer are the developers (engineers) of the application. The beautiful design and graphics were done by Kevin Kimmett.
Jonathan was involved, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t as a developer. Credit where credit’s due and all that.
Will this great application be made for the BlackBerry?
Apparently there are no Blackberry plans, but I’m hoping the corp changes their mind about this and soon!
Well CBC does not need to make a Blackberry app for all the the CBC radio and other world radio stations as there is a really cool free app called Nobex Radio Companion for the Blackberry, makes the iphone radio apps look horrible.
Nobex looks cool. Does it allow you to subscribe to a podcast?
