CBC union to select new branch president
Members of the Canadian Media Guild at CBC will be voting in two by-elections to be held November 27-30 to fill two vacancies on the union’s national executive at the CBC. The candidates are:
For President, CBC Branch:
- Pierre Claveau, French TV, Vancouver
- Marc-Philippe Laurin, French radio, Ottawa
- Barbara Saxberg, English radio, Toronto
For Secretary, CBC Branch:
- Kathryn Atkinson-Horgan, English TV, Toronto
- Gail Young, Media Sales & Marketing, Toronto
Candidates have been invited to send bios and campaign information for the CMG web site and those should be posted later this week.
(According to a funny typo on the original CMG release, “The vote will be done using our secure online voting system. Because of the lengthy voting period and ease of access to the online system, no online or absentee balloting will take place.”)
Members will also be asked to vote on whether to create an autonomous Canadian Region within CWA.
Also, there have been no nominees for the position of President of the CMG Freelance Branch. Nominations have been extended one week to 5 pm ET Monday, November 13. If you have any questions about eligibility or the nomination/election process, please contact Keith Maskell at keith@cmg.ca

“The election will be conducted online. No online or absentee balloting will take place.”
Wait… how do you have an online election without online voting?
