CMG seeks volunteers for next-round bargaining committee

Is it really that time already?!
The collective agreement between the Canadian Media Guild and the CBC expires in less than a year. It was hammered out in 2005 after a lengthy and bitter labour dispute that resulted in the lockout of 5,500 CMG members during the summer.
The CMG is now seeking members to volunteer for the next round of negotiations. And it’s not an easy job. As the CMG itself puts it:
“Prospective committee members must be willing and able to dedicate significant time and effort to the negotiations process. Negotiating is hard work and can be physically and emotionally demanding…. Bargaining committee members can expect to be away from their jobs and their homes for weeks at a time.”
(Wow. But do you throw in free doughnuts?)
The current agreement doesn’t expire until March 31 of next year, but talks are expected to begin this summer.
The deadline for applications is Friday May 9 and the CMG site has more information about applying.
