Counter-counter-intelligence
Another round in the fight over Intelligence: Today, Jeff Keay of CBC Communications sent a rebuttal to producer Chris Haddock’s claims that CBC “wants Intelligence dead”. “We have not yet made a decision as to whether we’ll continue with the show; when we do, Chris will be the first to know,” Keay said in response to what he called Haddock’s “attempts to negotiate through the media his relationship with the CBC.” According to Keay, CBC put significant resources into the show’s first season, and stuck with it despite low ratings.

Well Mr Keay, your so called significant resources for season 1 got a little dried up for season 2. Dreadful, pathetic web site/zero mention of 11 gemini nominations/that insufferable boy who’s on every night never a) interviewed Haddock b) mentioned Intelligence once (probably a little ‘adult’ for him)/endless & expensive promotion for the non-Canadian Henry V111 (boys in spandex looking pouty). Are the CBC brass so intent on dumbing down the entire network? By zero promotion of Intelligence, they can justify its cancellation by saying that the numbers were poor. Are they also going to point out that there no Neilson boxes in Vancouver & no boxes anywhere if you rent? Intelligence is smart, rivetting, and hip – just about everything the CBC is not. (Can you please cancel that boy instead?)
check your facts. tudors is a Canadian co- production.
Intelligence had a pretty extensive website for Season 1 actually, with stuff like a video mashup contest that I only wish I could have entered (never can have enough Macbooks). Then it got a complete redesign for season 2, and is at pretty much on a par with the Tudors’ site for complexity. I don’t think you can really accuse Online A&E of playing favourites in that respect.
Correct anon – shot entirely in Ireland, & distributed by Sony Pictures Television. CBC has a license to air & supplied the spandex. Not very home grown here to justify the massive advertising campaign, which included an extensive commercial campaign in cinemas across Canada.
The web site & mashup contest for season 1 was apparently handled by Haddock, season 2 by CBC.
“Apparently”? Worst astroturfer ever.
“We haven’t made a decision yet…” says it all. A show this good deserves an immediate Yes decision, not some stall tactic.
This is one of the best shows produced in North America, period. Keep it going and promote the hell out of it.
I think that Intelligence and The Border will be good on the scheduling together if – preferably when – the details get worked out. Different aspects of the same issues on each series are being played out and the two shows will repay the investment handsomely.
