The man who changed curling
A member of CBC’s original curling broadcast team, and the man many people credit with making the game more exciting, has died at the age of 80.
Doug Maxwell introduced time clocks and the “skins” game to curling, and transformed the world championship into a major event. He died of cancer Friday at his home in Markdale, Ont.
Maxwell was part of CBC’s original broadcast team, and was author of a number of books, including Tales of a Curling Hack, published last October, and Canada Curls.
