Jon Dube to return to ABCNews.com

Jon DubeJonathan Dube, director of CBC’s digital media, will leave the CBC Monday to return to ABCNews.com after a three-year stint here.

Dube joined CBC in 2005 as Editorial Director for CBC.ca, responsible for overseeing editorial content and staff. Last year, he took on the role of integrating CBC News across all digital media platforms.

“Under his leadership, the site has more than doubled its traffic,” said Todd Spencer, executive director of news content for CBC News, “[Making it] the top rated Canadian news site in both unique visits and quality of news coverage.”

Since joining CBC’s online team, Dube launched commenting on all news and sports stories and the incorporation of user-generated content into the site, expanded the news site to include new sections on technology, consumer life, diversions, visitor feedback and revamped money and health sections. As a result, the amount of daily content published on the site has more than doubled, and the length of user visits has significantly increased.

At ABCNews.com, he will help steer strategic planning, business strategy, editorial content and production. He has also worked MSNBC.com.

    And the exodus continues.

The dismantling of cbc.ca as a content group is nearly complete.

“Dube launched commenting on all news and sports stories and the incorporation of user-generated content into the site…”

That’s not very true. A whole team was involved in doing so, and Dube was simply the client behind the project, so in other words, he might have *initiated* it. The word “launching” is very misleading here.

Thanks TBA - good point. My bad. Of course, most of the work was done by a team under his direction.

If Mr. Dube & cohorts are responsible for the “news” of consumer life, diversions (what is that?), revamped money and health sections, then I am so pleased he is going back to the good old USA.

Canada’ s national radio, paid for by our taxes, has been gutted insofar as investigative journalism and current scientific/political news and articles. If our current government policies were discussed in total, along with the reasons for our troops being deleted from peace-keeping and real data regarding Canada’s climate change offerings were covered, there would be an outcry from Canadians . . . and a real introspection could take place.

CBC fails on all accounts. How absolutely disgraceful our “new” and improved CBC is showing up to be - no longer respected in the world, but now considered a “propaganda machine”.

The more we “dummy down” our national radio station, the more we shall deserve the results.

Please, get some critical thinking into your programs and certainly some context for the topics covered. I have heard enough “opinion pieces” from uninformed hosts.
