CBC launches special learning site for schools
Did you know? CBC offers thousands of hours of CBC programming — both radio and TV — to support school curriculums, from junior high right through to post-secondary and career colleges. Shows like The Nature of Things and O’Reilly on Advertising are available.
The folks who put all this together have now launched a web site which includes lesson plans, video, audio, and links to the dozens of educational CBC sites. A great site for teachers, professors and people involved in the educational community. It’s at www.cbclearning.ca
And, for the first time, educators can purchase curriculum relevant programs directly online, view excerpts, and explore the vast library of resources for the classroom. (Try visiting the Classroom Resources links on the right nav-bar and Click on Nature of Things to have a peek at the multimedia resources that exists there.)

Looks great and there seems to be a ton of good resources (lesson plans, etc). The costs of the videos seems high though…schools are just scraping by and don’t know if they would have $125 for a video…a lot of school boards across the country can’t even afford kleenex and paper towels for the classrooms. See there is a “special pricing” feature for teachers – too bad it’s under construction as hopefully the videos are a bit more reasonable through there
I am a curriculum specialist with the Dept. of Education on PEI.
I would love to be able to use a street cents episode with a unit I’ve just developed for Grade 9.
After lots of phone calls, emails, “I’ll put you through to…”, I was finally told that these are not available!! We can get Degrassi episodes from CTV. It is so difficult to get Canadian content for curriculum. I am very disappointed. Apparently just the Nature of Things is available. What a shame!
