Susan Englebert remembered
Vicky Gabereau and others remembered CBC Radio executive Susan Englebert in an obituary in Thursday’s Globe and Mail:
“Susan would always address me with: ‘How’re you doing, you old bag?’ ” remembered Vicki Gabereau. The two women had a long and productive professional relationship — and were also close friends. Ms. Englebert produced Variety Tonight with Vicki Gabereau and later, the two-hour daily talk show, Gabereau.
”Susan was a broadcasting nut,” said Ms. Gabereau. “She wasn’t a snob: She would steal anything she thought was good — talking up to vocals, compressing the sound so it had a brighter, crisper feel — she tried to make programs that didn’t sound like the CBC.
”She was tough on me. . . . Every time I was going to do an interview, she would say to me: ‘Whatever you do, don’t screw this up.’
Englebert died last month of cancer in Victoria. She was 60. [via Big Snit]
