Stroumboulopoulos to host American version of “The One”; no word yet on Canadian host
From cbc.ca:
CBC-TV’s pierced, hipster talk-show host has been tabbed to helm an American singing series. The black-shirted George Stroumboulopoulos will host the U.S. version of The One: Making a Music Star, in which 11 young musicians compete for a chance at a recording contract, CBC spokeswoman Danielle Fielder said Monday.
Starting July 18, Canadian viewers can catch the former MuchMusic VJ in the eight-week series on the U.S. ABC network and simulcast on CBC-TV.
No host has been announced yet for the Canadian version of the show, already a hit in 23 other countries, said Fielder.

I spotted this first on one of George’s fan blogs

The Greek-Ukrainian-Canadian host with the 17-letter surname was apparently CBC’s Trojan horse. Clever. Terribly, terribly clever.
Just how American will the show really be… now?
You would be surprised how many fans of George and The Hour are not warming up to George hosting a reality show… stay tuned for backlash.
so after all the hype billing him as the possible voice of our generation he steps back to one notch above VJ, hosting american idol ripoff show.
Hey, it worked for Anderson Cooper…he hosted The Mole and nobody seems to mind.
I think it’s great! Good for George.
You want reality programming? How about hosting the show from Lebanon? Or Ramallah? Or Darfur? Or a reserve in Northern BC?
We have escapism already. Why do tax dollars need to ape commercial ventures?
I hope everyone is telling their friends about this site. Neither PromoGirl nor the buttery-smooth voices on TV seem to be telling people to do more than call Audience Relations (which is better than nothing.)
I’ve never been a fan of George or his proselytizing on the news. I’m glad to see him partake in a venue that’s more suited to his skill set. Please stop trying to make the news “cool” CBC.
