Secret Google Tips for Researchers: Episode 1
Whether you’re a journalist, associate producer, researcher, host, or really anyone at the CBC, these quick tips should help you become a lot better at finding things using Google (as opposed to spending your time just searching for them).
This is Day One of a week-long series. The videos will each be less than 10 minutes long, so they’re a great way to do your own personal Learn At Lunch!
Let me know if this kind of thing is helpful.
P.S. These facts are not, in fact, a secret. That was a cheap ploy to get you to read this.

Hey Tod,
Good stuff!
I look forward to the rest of the series.
Perhaps the next tutorial you do could be on the different ways of reading RSS feeds.
thx
The Google Tip video was informative. Thanks for sharing!
thank you so much for sharing your googling tricks — looking forward to your next lesson!
Love this Tod!
It harkens back to my schooling in “New Media” but it’s nice to get the reminders.
Now I can’t wait for the next tutorial.
I thought ten minutes was going to be drawn out, but it was over before I knew it.
I liked opening another tab/window and running through your video, with other search topics I’ve been working on, while listening to your voice. Equally as helpful, by the way.
Cha cha cha
Tom
Useful information, just the right length of video. Looking forward to the rest of the week:-)
Thanks Todd – looking forward to the next one
Hello Tod,
Thanks for the tips. I am definitely going to “feel lucky” more often now (I actually didn’t know what that button mean before.
A geek question — How do you do all the screen “movie” captures? I am hoping you are using a piece of free software on a mac. (smile)
By the way, great stuff but it is a bit too long for 8+ minutes. May be 4-5 minutes? Oh, and can we have a tip sheet of things covered in each episode?
Thanks,
Kempton
Hi Kempton – I’m using iShowU on the Mac. It’s a licenced copy, though, not free.

Awesome tips! I wish I’d had this a month ago when my students were doing research for their term papers! I’ll definitely be using it next term, though.

I have just looked “listened to” the first issue of your Google blog and I have found a couple of things that I was not aware of such as the “I am feeling lucky” button. Thanks and I will be listening to more of thses. Thanks and thanks to CBC for giving us this platform.
