CBC Television adds second mobile HD unit

For the first time this Saturday, Canadian hockey fans will be able to see both games of CBC’S Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night doubleheader in High-Definition (HD), with the launch of Encore - CBC’s second HD mobile production truck. CBC’S Hockey Night in Canada will double its HD broadcast schedule for the remainder of the 2006/07 regular season as well as for the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Encore joins Hockey Night in Canada’s first HD mobile production truck, Premiere, and will be based in Toronto to handle the eastern broadcasts. Premiere will be based in Calgary to produce the western broadcasts.

Good to hear! I noticed that the 5th Estate is now in HD as well. All we need is for 22 Minutes and The National to be in HD, and I’ll be as happy as a clam. :-D

    HD fan says:

How about a photo of the new HD truck? Also, why doesn’t the CBC have a contest for employees to name new live trucks and sports mobile trucks. (Leaf-Killer and Leaf-Choker are my personal suggestions. Others may have theirs.)

    BOB says:

Not sure about it being based in Calgary, I heard Edmonton with the other mobile.

HD Fan - how ’bout Leaf Blower ?

    Mark says:

So who do I have to bribe to get CBC HD down here in Seattle? My cable company ignored my request. :)

    Bob Dawson says:

The Premiere is based in Edmonton along with the western SD unit the D 86

    Tyler says:

At least in terms of sports it would be most logical to base the new HD mobile in Calgary. It’s centralized to the three major NHL and CFL markets in Western Canada.

Think of the added transportation costs of having the unit in Edmonton or Vancouver!
