First look: Our new radio logos!

CBC Radio launches its networks’ new logos next week. Here’s a sneak peek just for those of you on the blog:

I like them, though I’m not quite sure why “one” is spelled out, where as 2 and 3 appear as digits.

What do you think of our new logos?

though I’m not quite sure why “one” is spelled out

Perhaps the custom Razorfish font didn’t include numerals.

Also, why the hairline to separate the gem from “radio” in one and 3 but not 2?

    Matthew says:

Where’s the dot in Radio One?

It looks weird without a doubt, like a small letter L.

    Strange stuff.

    Mark says:

Is there meant to be a dot on the ‘i’ in Radio One?

    John Bowman says:

That’s the Razorfish font. No dots on the ‘i’s and short little t’s:

    Todd Sieling says:

The 2 is a bit jaunty for the quiet nature of radio 2, and missing dot notwithstanding these look pretty nice. I do love the tagline for radio 3. Nice stuff; thanks for sharing these.

    iamiam says:

I think the numeral for Radio 1 is not used because that would look too much like the letter “i” without a dot. Which would confuse people and make them think it was Rad1o i.

At least, that’s one possible answer.

    Luke says:

I think they look good. I especially like the radio 2. I like that radio one is spelled out. I think it has to do with that radio one is mostly talk (words).

    Steve Baxley says:

I thought CBC Radio 3 was going off the air this month ???

    Gary Hood says:

The Radio Two logo is an improvement over the pompous, cursive “Two” currently used, although, as mentioned by Todd Sieling, it’s a bit deceptive. “radio one”, on the other hand, looks like it crawled out of the deepest, darkest corner of a New Age book store. The current logo is much better.

    John Bowman says:

The show called Radio 3 is no longer going to be on Radio 2. The network Radio 3 still on the internet, podcasts and Sirius.

    vinb says:

The razorfish isn’t bad for the cbctelevision logo, but the i is missing its dot in the radio one logo.

    Jennifer says:

I think they’re good logos. I basically listen to radio one and I think the font matches the format. I agree with Luke — Radio One is talk and therefore the one is spelled out.

    helen says:

those aren’t great, but they look better than the local locals with the frequency written across the bottom… those use a different font than the rest of the logo, for a total of 3 different fonts in the same logo! terrible design…

    jeannette says:

You’re time would be better spent examining the impact of the changes to radio 2……nothing commendable.

    jjv says:

why are the old logos still in use here: http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/radio/
    but not here: http://www.cbc.ca/radio2/index.html

i supposed there is only so much one can do with a word and number: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/

Alex in Toronto, ON CANADA says:

I guess the literati listen to radio 1, why else spell out the numeral. Radio 2 and 3 are for audiophiles where reading is not necessary.

I think the logos should BE consistent and that radio1 should be with the number one instead. Overall, they all look pretty plain. I like the BBC radio logos. They all show the same style and font on different backgrounds.
