One big happy family

In a note to staff today, CBC president Robert Rabinovitch announced that the CBC Board of Directors has approved “the formal integration of CBC Radio and CBC Television, which is effective immediately. The integrated services, including CBC.ca, will be led by Richard Stursberg, Executive Vice-President, English Services.” Jennifer McGuire becomes the new Executive Director of CBC Radio, reporting directly to Stursberg. The moves are based in part on Radio-Canada’s 2005 integration under Sylvain Lafrance. More information is expected later today.

Unbelievable !!!! The outgoing President of the CBC making such wide sweeping changes in the structure of this National Broadcaster is tying the hands, pre-emptively, of his incoming replacement. Mr. R has had sufficient time during his tenure to enact these changes. It truly smacks as a gesture similar to what an outgoing political leader would do. In my view, it resmbles what the General Manager of the Maple Leafs has done with the long term signing of suspect talent. If, and when, he will be replaced the new G.M. will be saddled with a team that will continue to go no where. A simple sports analogy is all I could come up with to try and understand this action. I always believed that the new head would have the right to chart the corporate course he has. Maybe I’m wrong, but, whatever.

does that mean they’re going ahead with adjusting radio audio to fit the TV standard? Because I think that’s silly and pointless.

    Arctic Dreamer says:

I actually couldn’t take time from my WORK to read all applicable e-mails, take part in the FORUM, etc.

    Josh says:

I don’t work at CBC. Can anyone tell a listener what this could actually mean?

    Kev says:

It’s worse than that, radio’s going to 16:9 SD.

    estragon says:

Josh, it means that the &#^%*$@ who %#@&ed up CBC TV will now also %#@& up CBC Radio.

    Rata says:

A Sad day for CBC Radio me thinks!!

    Chip says:

Hmm, in my opinion, CBC Radio is already %#@& ed up, and I don’t think it’ll improve.
