Should the federal government provide more funding for the CBC?

Not that it means anything, but there’s a poll going on over at the Globe about CBC funding (scroll to half way down the page on the right). I won’t even get into the difference between additional funding and bridge financing.

Yah those numbers may be a bit off since emails have been going around CBC all day asking staffers to vote.
That can’t be true, most of share IPs in CBC facilities so we wouldn’t be able to vote more than once. I just checked and if you the same IP it says you have already voted.
That’d be kind of pointless unless the Globe and Mail have incompetent coders. All CBC web traffic goes through a couple of proxies, so it’d look like a flood from one or two IP addresses.
The comments don’t seem to support the “poll” results.

Lots of CBC staffers have time to hit “yes” to more money., while actual Canadians take the time to comment otherwise.
Things that make you go hmmmm.
“Actual Canadians”?
Sorry, I don’t work for the CBC last I checked, but I’m pretty sure I was born and raised here and being a fan of CBC programming past and present doesn’t rank as grounds to be stripped of my citizenship. I don’t recall renouncing my citizenship either.
Mike, your argument is Wrong.
Did you read the comments above ?
How would CBC staffers been able to do this ? There are something like 2000-3000 CBC people in Toronto alone, and with the way these polls work, only one vote is allowed from one IP address. Deny it all you want but there is no way that all those votes are CBCers.
These numbers are a bit out of date now but look at this poll :
http://www.friends.ca/files/PDF/IR-breakdown.pdf
If you look at those number even amoungst conservatives voters over 70% of conservatives support either the CBC funding staying the same or increasing.
A small minority of people make a lot of noise about disliking the CBC, but most people don’t want it to disappear. Their are countless indicators of this, like that poll.
Or even if you look more recently, CBC is consistently ahead of Global in Prime Time Ratings. This despite of the fact that they rebroadcast big American shows with big promotional budgets.
CBC Radio One programs are some of the highest rated radio programs across the country in most markets.
These numbers aren’t just pulled out of thin air, they are produced by outside independent polling companies, it is the polling numbers that all broadcasters use.
Just because these millions of viewers and listeners don’t bother posting on comment sections, doesn’t mean Canadians don’t want a strong CBC.
At the Corpse, the agenda seems to be to vote unwisely and to vote often.
the most recent numbers are
Yes
73%
20374 votes
No
27% 7363 votes
