CBC Sports anchors: A bunch of foul-mouthed $%#&ers?
It’s the last bastion of profanity within the CBC: CBC Sports. At least as the Globe and Mail sees it.
(Clearly the Globe reporter has never been in Radio Master Control when a two-way line gets dropped live.)
Have a read through the article then weigh in:
Is there too much profanity or CBC? Not enough?

I don’t think we as a society need to strive to avoid offending the most sensitive people among us. You can never please everyone all of the time. Seriously, Ron McLean of all people is too harsh? And the comparison with Mansbridge is just silly–the NHL isn’t the nightly news.
I thought they’d cut back with the profanity. Da Vinci’s Inquest wasn’t afraid of using the f-word at 9 pm, but you don’t hear that these days.
The comparison between MacLean and Mansbridge is asinine. The job hardly requires the same gravitas as hosting The National.
There is never enough profanity on the CBC. (Taking the typo at face value, sounds like there’s less and less CBC as well. I suggest a profanity hour on the new Radio Two.)
Gee, I never thought I’d see a CTV company finding some way to find something wrong with a CBC broadcast… Damn it, hell and damn are a regular part of my vocab… hell, it’s normal for people to speak that way. Maybe the Globe, and other CTV affiliates should try reporting some thing of real concern rather then complaining about our broadcast… although, it is good to know that even though they’re complaining, they still watch Hockey Night in Canada.
Houston is absolutely correct. Profanity, even of the mildest varirty, has absolutely no place in the mouths of professional broadcasters. It’s not ‘smart,’ it’s not ‘daring.’ It’s lazy and does not respect the audience. But, more important, are the grammatical ‘clangers’ offered continually to a bewildered audience by colour commentator Garry Galley. Just because it’s a Sports program does not excuse vulgarity nor fractured syntax. Remedial grammar lessons are in order. Perhaps a dash of soap too!
Really, that’s what we have to complain about these day? That Ron MacLean uses the word “hell”? Is that even a swear? Obviously Houston doesn’t watch Strombo.
– Yeah, it’s kind of a slow news day here at the blog.
Well, today on Sounds like Canada, they were throwing around the word “biatch.” Does that count as a swear word?
It depends when and where, it seems. I have to admit to being surprised and amused that such usage would abound on SLC of all shows. Everyone on the air at that moment seemed comfortable enough with it, though.
