Moscow reporter hired
Alexandra Szacka will become Moscow correspondent for the CBC’s English and French networks starting this fall.
Szacka has led a distinguished career in journalism for over 20 years, first with Radio-Québec on the programs Nord-Sud and Arrimage, then with Radio-Canada. She reported for the shows Enjeux (1990-98 and 2000-02) and Zone libre (2002-05). She also coordinated CBC/Radio-Canada’s French-language bureau in New York from 1998 to 2000. She has worked in the newsroom since 2005, producing a series of reports from Poland, among other assignments. She also spent several weeks in Afghanistan last fall, where she had to file under extremely difficult conditions.
Alexandra Szacka takes over from Nick Spicer.

Alexandra’s career path might have led her to Paris rather than Moscow. I hope she has the language and cultural skills to prod into the current Muscovite economic recesses and political landscapes.
