“Ouimet” puts infamous Teamakers blog on ice
It was compelling from the start. A CBC manager, “locked in” during the 2005 lockout of 5,500 CMG workers, began blogging about life on the inside. The mood of people, inside-only briefings by executives, and the challenges of being on the inside when so many of her friends and colleagues were walking the picket line outside.
At least, that was the story. Scant few people knew who she actually was. Or if she was, in fact, a she. Or even if she had been on the inside at all. (I can confirm that she was.) Somehow, it didn’t seem to matter. Her Teamakers blog became a rallying-point for people passionate about the CBC.
But as of this morning, the blogger who calls herself “Ouimet” says she is taking an indefinite break from writing her blog. “Times change. I’ve changed. You’ve changed. We’ve changed. I never thought this blog would last 3 days. I’ve been going on nearly 3 years,” she wrote in a final blog posting last night. “I’m going to miss all of you, each and every one. It’s been a lot of fun, and you made it worthwhile.”

this is the second “break” so far. The last one lasted, what, a month or so?
Too bad.
But really, it was inevitable. Teamakers was perfect for a certain time and place, and then seemed to have trouble finding a focus. I hope to see the blogger, whoever he/she is, in the future.
Links. They make the web. Use them.
And the ‘infamous’ blog is “Inside the CBC” “Teamakers” is ‘well-known.’
That was a nice piece, Tod.
So far, it’s come closest to capturing this bittersweet moment, and honouring the end of a truly great blog.
And Megan?
Go focus yourself.
I think Ouimet has been bullied to go offline. She will never admit it, but I think the people at the top know exactly who she is and have threatened her. Just ask William Chambers. He’s always bragged privately that he knows exactly who Ouimet is. I heard he met with her a few weeks ago and reminded them that if they slip up they’re fuct. Well, no surprise now Ouimet is leaving the CBC and shutting down the blog. This has really been the season of the long knives…
I’m a little surprised at your speculation here, Mark.
Not sure what you think you’re accomplishing.
I will remind you and others that Ouimet’s blog was, though not endorsed, at the very least given the right to exist by none other than the President of the CBC himself, who has shown exceptional leadership in this regard.
I shall miss Ouimet…s/he was one of the few calling out the CBC about their horrible decision to cancel jPod.
I say FIRE Kirstine Layfield (Why is Heartland still on again?) and hire Ouimet as your new Director of Programming. Now THAT would bring some common sense back into the Ceeb’s Television Landscape!
Ouimet, hope we’ll see you back during the next lock-out.
