My technology column launches this Thursday on regional morning shows (topic: Is Zune the iPod Killer?) and I need a name for the column. Somehow “Tod’s technology report” doesn’t quite have the right radio zing. Plus, I need something that would make an easy-to-remember domain name. Any ideas?
The person who comes up with the “winning” name will get a brand new Live!Motion Web Cam from Creative Labs!
But time is short, so add your suggestion in the comments right now.
SCHEDULE: I’ll be live with the morning show host in the following cities Thursday morning: Regina, Fredericton, Ottawa, Goose Bay, Halifax, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Kelowna, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary.
Other cities (Montreal, Saint John, Moncton, Corner Brook, Charlottetown, Quebec City, Windsor, Yellowknife and Whitehorse) will get a short documentary from me on the same topic.

I dunno. “Upgrade.”
Tod’s Tech Talk

How about…. iTod?
Tod 2.0 ?
Hey Tod…I think we’ll be talking as I’m filling in on the Montreal AM show. I like “iTod”, but you can never go wrong with Todzapalooza.
how about ”Toddling along…”

I know you use it elsewhere, but I’ve always thought Todbits was particularly clever.
Todcasting?
Todcast?
Otherwise…

“The Tod Report”
“Tod’s Tech Report”
“Tech Radio with Tod Maffin”
“Tech Report with Tod Maffin”
“TechPod” (but that’s likely to land you in IP and trademark trouble)
“TodPod” (even worse)
Is this going to be a Netcast? (Surely you’ve seen the controversy at http://www.twit.tv/2006/09/22/a_cast_by_any_other_name
What about sticking with “TodBits”? Been a long time since we’ve seen a TodBits podcast, but it’s a great name, plays off of the whole bits-donut-thing, but can also imply tech news.
Maybe even “TodBytes”, but that plays too much into the hands of “Tod bites”. Hmm…

Umm…so where’s Toronto in the list of the lucky cities?
(sorry to break the train of previous train of thought.) (But I throw support for Todbits or TodCast. Now if I can only hear it.)

You know what I think? I think the word Tech / Techonology should be left out of it altogether. Hows about “Future” or my other thoughts of “Forward” or “Pace” or “Pause”. I’m not sure which I prefer. My logic is this:
Future: Future-looking technology. Technology always moves on at an amazing speed, and it’s (general) future-looking so this is an all-encompassing title that can be expanded quite liberally.
Forward: Similar idea to above really… Moving forwards into new technology.
Pace: Again, similar thought, the Pace of technology now-a-days is fast and this conveys that sense of speed and evolution in the technological sector whilst being quite nice and radio-friendly.
Pause: Different thought here… a pause from the listeners day and a pause in time, a “slice” of the technology at that moment (There’s another title idea). “Pause: Your daily / weekly / whatever slice of technology news and views, with me, Tod Maffin” (or similar) could be the tagline / intro.
Anyways, there’s my thoughts, hope you like them!

p.s. Welcome back!
How about “T3″ which could be short for (take your pick) “Tod’s Tech Talk,” “Tod Talks Tech,” “Tech Talk with Tod,” or whatever (all of which have been suggested above, by others).
Or how about “Techscrape with Todd Maffin?” Or if that sounds too much like a medical procedure, try “Techscape…”
Then there’s the somewhat silly “Eye On Digital.” Or perhaps “Beyond the Geekzone.”
You could always go with the very direct “Technology Report,” which is fairly boring but is concise and to the point.
But under no circumstances should you use “Todr.”

Hey, wait, you went to air this morning. So what the heck did you call yourself?
Hmmm, I’m still curious as to what the show was actually called. Not having regular access to CBC Radio One, I would be interested to find out. Can anybody help?
