The end result of media consolidation
Here’s the top of the Review section of today’s Globe and Mail:

Oh come on, CTV… er, Globe and Mail, now you’re just embarrassing yourself. At least this one is so blatant, it’s almost funny. I mean, they could have superimposed the CBC logo with a skull and crossbones.
Personally, I would have gone with:

But I guess people might have caught on that the Globe and Mail is owned by the same company that owns CTV, a direct competitor to CBC Television. Gee, who said media consolidation was a bad thing?
(Er, incidentally, Globe, we’re still waiting for that retraction and apology…)

If there is an apology it will be in the Sunday G&M, fewer readers!
The CBC should do a documentary on the concentration of the Media
Ditto on Clara’s doc on media consolidation.
CBC remains the #1 source of news and docs. One show goin’ down does not an apocalypse constitute.
CBC still #1 in my book
I read the Globe religiously every Saturday, and have my radio surgically situated on CBC, so naturally I was a little shocked when reading that particular banner. (Reprinted…in colour…on their Reviews page, by the way. Not seen that happen too often.)
And yet…how disappointing to read the two linked articles. One was just a one colomn job tucked beside some add that basically gave the facts…thereabouts. The other was larger but could have been reprinted from any other article that has been written in the past 20 years about how the CBC is going to have to deal with a new administration/government/budget, etc.
Oh…and sorry to Clara…but the reason why the Sunday G&M has fewer readers is because there isn’t such a paper. Perhaps she’s thinking of The National Post?
Oops…sorry. That should be ‘column’ and ‘ad’, of course. Isn’t it amazing how you don’t spot the mistakes until you’ve clicked “sent”?
Ooops…’send’.

In my book too!

Ooops from me too! I guess my “fewer readers” should be zero readers. What a perfect scenario for a G&M retraction!
