The New cbc.ca. Now With Overlay Ads
I’ve never seen this kind of overlay advertising on cbc.ca before. It’s obviously something new. As you can see in the picture the ads appear at the bottom of the page.
Anybody know anything about this new feature?

By “anything”, I’m guessing you mean “anything other than that they’re hated.”
Bob, yes, anything but that, but thanks for making it ‘claro’ as they say in Spanish.
It’s not a feature, it’s a bug.
How can a government entity sell itself to the evil private corporate line of “Rogers”??? Phone your MP! How can our precious publically-owned broadcaster succumb to these company yes-men? I DEMAND my precious CBC stop this commercial advertising madness! I visit CBC.ca to escape the private sector, not be accosted by it !
Shame! Shame!
okay goodnight guys. any other comments will have to wait until morning.
…just amazing. Not the first time that Rogers has pulled stuff that annoyed their customers no end, either.
Is it possible that you were viewing the CBC within the Rogers site (or any other site)? Or is it really an overlay?
One way or another this sort of thing is probably in the CBC’s future and that’s a terrible shame.
Tom, I saw it from home on a Bell service. However I noticed today that I don’t see it anymore, so maybe it was a bug?
These types of ads are usually frequency-capped, meaning that it’s programmed to only show it to you once or twice (as everyone knows it’s ultra annoying).
