Shokoor Firoz, the CBC’s fixer in Kabul and his brother Qaim, a driver, were both nabbed by Afghan authorities shortly after Mellissa Fung’s kidnapping. They are still being held despite pleas from Mellissa and the CBC.
Mellissa said in an interview yesterday “I just know that there’s no way Shokoor could have been involved.” She added that an RCMP investigator had visited Shakoor on Tuesday and “I told him to just tell Shokoor that I’m thinking about him and I know he didn’t do this.”
John Cruickshank said in a press release issued today: “In addition to maintaining the salaries of both men, we have offered to provide support for their legal representation. We have provided to authorities letters of support for the men, from CBC and from Mellissa personally. We have engaged a trusted family friend who is known to us to act as a liaison with Shokoor and Qaim. We are also working with the Afghan Union of Journalists, which is advocating on their behalf.
“I want to emphasize to you that we will continue to pay close attention to this very serious matter,” Cruickshank added.
To support to Shokoor and his brother, especially if you’ve worked with them in the field, leave a comment below and we’ll forward it along.

Melissa says you were not involved which would mean that you are INNOCENT. I believe Melissa.
Someday, the world might live in peace and real democracy will prevail.
Is the CBC immune to the current economic downturn?
What does the leadership have to say?
Nothing?
That’s hardly leadership.
Not relevant to the topic of this posting, Allan.
Hoping everything gets worked out to a happier ending for the Brothers Firoz.
