Vancouver Dragon Boat Crew
The guys in Vancouver are looking for crew for the CBC’s Dragon Boat team, known as ‘the Wave Catchers.’
David Yee is organizing it, he says “Are you looking to break out of your regular workout routine and try something new? Or do you just like the feel of having a long blunt instrument in your hands?” If so then Dragon boating might be for you.
Training starts in April. If you’re interested his full message is after the break. That Christmas weight just not coming off as quick as you like? Are you looking to break out of your regular workout routine and try something new? Or do you just like the feel of having a long blunt instrument in your hands?
Then join the fun and be part of the CBC’s dragon boat team, the Wave Catchers!
Come experience False Creek from the water and have the time of your life while making new friends and getting fit all at the same time!
Here’s the deal:
- We participate in a minimum of two big Festivals: the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival in mid-June and the Kelowna Dragon Boat Festival in September.
- We meet and practice each Sunday morning @ at 11am with 1/2 hour for warming-up, and 1 hour 1/2 on the water; our practices are run by a coach with many years of experience as a competitive paddler and as a coach.
- Training is tentatively slated to start on Sunday, March 15th and will continue every Sunday’s until the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival in June, and will then be moved to a weekday evening until September. Practices are rain or shine.
- There is a registration fee of $150; this covers festival registration costs, jersey costs, and coaching and docking fees.
- Beginners are welcome! The coach will show you the basics and fitness will come with practice.
- As it is every year, our primary objective is to have fun!
As we have a number of returnees from last season’s team, space on the boat is limited so if you’re interested in joining or have any questions, please contact me by phone or by email.

Out of curiousity, is this targeted specifically towards CBC employees ? I arrived at this post via Twitter; I’m new to Vancouver and would like to get involved but I’m not sure if this is an invitation to the public at large.
Hey Richard, I don’t think so. But you could contact David and ask him, just to be certain.
Vacuos Vacouver.
Same happened to me with Pratrick Watson.
My cryptic remark was intended as a subtle hint to look at your headline.
And now this page
thanks Allan. Something about Windows and WordPress don’t mix.
Perhaps Geri Hall will be free after her much talked about interruption of some serious question for This Hour Has 22 Minutes bit with Dalton McGuinty today.
I think next time she tries the bit it won’t be during serious questions.
Good luck dragon boaters.
You would think some senior CBC executives would for go a couple of $1000 lunches to pay for the CBC teams fees instead of leaving it fall on the shoulders of the employees. I thinking if Stursberg volunteers for something and its for benefits CBC his expenses would be submitted.
I too hope that Geri will soon be free. Free for lunch, free for dinner, free for a weekend at a bed & breakfast.
I want to kiss her soul and make it all better every day.
Her “ambush” interviews demand nerves of steel, and what she produces is nothing short of brilliant.
My heart went out to her when I saw what Kormos did.
Devastating rudeness.
The piece was working fine, Dalton was enjoying it and cooperating, and it was almost over when Kormos demanded all the attention.
What a self-righteous … (guess I can’t say what I really think of him here – some bad, bad words).
I hope the CBC and Halifax Films appreciate what a treasure this talented young actress is to all of us.
Please excuse my spelling gaffe. I left the e out of forego.
My bad.
