CBC producer Dan Misener has uncovered some interesting stats about what CBC employees change on the community-written Wikipedia.
Dan notes that since all of the CBC’s Internet traffic is seen by the outside world as originating from one IP address, it’s relatively easy to track what CBC employees are doing on Wikipedia. On Monday, for instance, someone inside the Corp added some details on the Roswell UFO incident. (While you can’t tell specifically who inside the CBC made the edits, my money for the latter is on the Quirks guys. <grin>)
Some other edits made by CBCers recently (click the diff link to see what edits they made)
- (diff) Lloyd Robertson
- (diff) Gordon Pinsent
- (diff) Canadian Forces casualties in Afghanistan
- (diff) Ira Basen
- (diff) Television systems before 1940
- (diff) Grant Lawrence
- (diff) List of talk show hosts
- (diff) Centennial Secondary School shooting

Most interesting, I thought, was the anonymous CBC employee back in February who apparently hates numerology. They erased the entry several times and, in some cases, added numerologists are people who “obsess and find meaning” in numbers.

In the past, I’ve seen the occasional polite request from Wiki moderators that CBC staff create their own accounts to make changes, specifically because of this issue. It’s harder to have a discussion about a change or addition when you can’t identify the author.
Well, at least the CBC employees are tamer than other people who just create problems with the moderators, which creates huge problems. I remember a situation in which someone was changing some articles (mainly on the Russian military) and got into problems with the moderators.
Lloyd Robertson, LLD? ha ha!
